At HPB, one of our primary missions is to provide the biggest variety of printed and recorded merchandise you’ve ever seen. But we can’t do that without YOU! Of course we buy and sell a huge variety of books, but we offer so much more, based on what customers like you sell to us each and every day. As our co-founder Ken Gjemre used to say, “We buy everything printed and recorded, except yesterday’s newspaper.”

Everything Printed…
Books, of course, make up the majority of what we buy: hardback books, mass-market paperback books, brand-new bestsellers, century-old rare books, large-print books, textbooks, picture books, coffee-table books and every other kind of books.
Then there are magazines from current to vintage issues, as well as comic books, manga and graphic novels. And let’s not forget the many types of paper ephemera: playbills, ads, posters, postcards, photos…
Some of our favorite items to buy are not just rare, they’re one-of-a-kind, like this hand-drawn set of illustrations of French coats-of-arms that’s about 250 years old.

When HPB started out in 1972, we were called Half Price Books, Records, and Magazines, Inc. We’ve always bought a wide variety of LPs, from the days before CDs, through the digital era, and now during the vinyl renaissance. But in addition to LPs, we buy other record formats—45s, 78s, EPs—plus CDs, cassettes and even 8-tracks (not that very many folks still have 8-track players).

For the visually-minded, we not only buy DVD and Blu-ray discs and sets, but, for the diehards, we even buy VHS tapes and laserdiscs. Yes, laserdiscs! And of course we also stock recorded versions of the printed word—audiobooks.
