Support HPB’s Local Literacy Partners During National Literacy Month

September is National Literacy Month! Each year, Half Price Books makes it our mission to combat illiteracy through partnerships with local literacy organizations in our community.

When you shop at your local Half Price Books during September, look for a coin box at the register that asks you to donate change to a literacy organization in the area. All donations will go directly to our local partners… it’s that simple! Shop your local HPB in September, give a little change, and do a lot of good. Find your local store at hpb.com/stores.

  • Hello,
My name is Meredith MacKenzie and I am a Pediatric Literacy Nurse with Wellstar Health System in Marietta, GA. Our literacy program is called Small TALK and we aim to surround patients with good language nutrition (importance of talk, read, sing, play on brain development) within our affiliated offices and hospital. This program not only models good language skills, it also teaches parents the importance of these interactions. As our program is a literacy program that continues through the age of 8, any donations of children’s books would be greatly appreciated. I would make sure that these books would be allocated to one of Wellstar’s 13 program-affiliated pediatric practices. Some of our patients live in very underserved areas and these books would be very welcome. I could easily pick any donations up from your East Cobb location. Please let me know if you have any questions related to this. For more information about this program, please check our landing page at http://www.wellstar.org/smalltalk
    Best,
    Meredith MacKenzie, BSN, RN
