Meet the Bibliomaniac: Renee Hodge

HPB North Oaks in Houston, TX, recently received a makeover, with the construction of an all-new “Staff Picks” section at the front of the store! As a family-owned, community-oriented bookstore, Half Price Books hires employees that reflect the neighborhoods in which we do business. The beauty of a neighborhood bookstore is in the sharing of ideas, so the new Staff Picks section at HPB North Oaks was designed to celebrate that connection between community and store by starting a conversation about what the HPB North Oaks team is reading. Meet Store Manager, Renee Hodge in this edition of Meet the Bibliomaniac!

What is your favorite part about working at HPB?
RH: My favorite part of my job is the fact that each day is different. I have friends that go in to work and do the same thing each day in a cubicle and they are not enthusiastic about their jobs.

What is your all-time favorite book, movie or album?
RH: My all-time favorite movie is Tremors. The all out goofiness of the movie always makes me smile.

What are you reading right now?
RH: Right now I am reading (well, actually listening on my commute) The Motivation Myth by Jeff Haden.

What TV show or movies are you embarrassed to admit you love?
RH: I am embarrassed to admit that I spend far too much time watching Living Big in a Tiny House on YouTube. I have way too many books for it ever to happen.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
RH: People would be surprised to learn that I have a collection of perfume bottles.

What do you like to do in your free time?
RH: In my free time I like to garden.

If you could write a book about yourself, what would the title be?
RH: I am not fond of cold weather, so the title would be; There is a Reason I Live in Houston.

When are you the happiest?
RH: I am happiest when I have a stack of my favorite authors’ work to look forward to reading.
